AMOLED vs LCD Display: Which Is Better?

AMOLED and LCD are the two display types in almost every phone sold today. Neither is better for everyone — they trade contrast and efficiency against cost and longevity.

How they differ

AMOLED lights each pixel individually, so black pixels are truly off: contrast is effectively infinite and dark scenes look deep. LCD lights the whole panel from behind, so blacks look greyish in the dark, but colours are often more natural out of the box.

Battery and brightness

AMOLED saves battery on dark content (dark mode genuinely helps), but can use more power on bright white screens. LCD power use is steadier regardless of content. In bright sunlight, a good LCD can be easier to read than a dim AMOLED — peak brightness matters more than panel type.

Burn-in and cost

AMOLED can suffer burn-in (a faint ghost of static content) after years of heavy use with fixed elements; modern panels mitigate it well, but it is a real, if small, risk. LCD cannot burn in. AMOLED panels also cost more to replace if the screen breaks — worth knowing before buying a phone you plan to keep for years.

Which should you pick

Pick AMOLED if you watch a lot of video, use dark mode, and want the punchiest screen. Pick LCD if you keep phones for many years, worry about repair cost, or mostly read and browse. Note: MobileZone does not yet list display type per phone — check the official spec sheet for the exact model.

Frequently asked questions

Is AMOLED always better than LCD?
No. AMOLED wins on contrast and dark-mode battery; LCD wins on longevity, repair cost, and steady power use.
What is burn-in?
A faint permanent ghost image on AMOLED screens after long display of static content. Modern panels reduce the risk, but it cannot happen on LCD at all.
Does MobileZone list display type?
Not yet per phone. Check the official brand spec sheet for the model's display type.
