PTA Tax on Mobile Phones in Pakistan (2026)
PTA tax is the duty you pay to register an imported phone on Pakistan's networks. It is not a single percentage: it is built from several components that depend on the phone's customs value, your registration route, and your filer status.
The components (FBR FY 2026-27)
Under the structure in force from 1 July 2026 (regulatory duty per SRO 1064(I)/2026), a smartphone's duty is made of: regulatory duty (by value band), sales tax (18% up to $500, 25% above), a handset levy, and income tax on the CNIC route. Feature (non-smart) phones also carry a small customs duty plus a Rs 250 levy. The PTA Tax Calculator on the homepage breaks these components down for any price.
Passport route vs CNIC route
On the passport route (traveller/overseas Pakistani), income tax is exempt, and one eligible device per year may be registered tax-free if DIRBS confirms eligibility — never assume the exemption in your total. On the CNIC route (resident), income tax is added, and non-ATL (non-filer) taxpayers pay double that component.
A worked example
A $600 smartphone (about PKR 168,000 at Rs 280 per dollar) on the CNIC route as an ATL filer works out to roughly Rs 79,100 in total duty; on the passport route the same phone is roughly Rs 67,600, because income tax drops out. These are estimates from the published band structure — your final figure depends on the FBR's official customs value, which can differ from the shop price.
What the calculator cannot tell you
The calculator cannot confirm your eligibility, your device's official customs value, or whether a fine applies (a 10% fine may apply in some late-registration cases and is shown separately, never folded into the total). Final payable duties and taxes should be confirmed through the official applicable government/PTA process, and this tool is not an official PTA tool.
